How does it taste?

The red kuri squash (aka onion squash, Hokkaido squash) has a really mellow and smooth flavour, like chestnuts. The cinnamon, cloves, ginger, nutmeg, and cane sugar give it an earthy sweetness,

So... it's not a pumpkin?

Ok, so technically this should be called Squash Spice, but I hope you'll forgive me for misleading you a little...! Pumpkins are a very similar kind of squash, so I don't feel too guilty about it.

How spicy is it?

The ghost peppers (aka bhut jolokia) aren't initially too spooky, but they do sneak up on you. Pretty similar to actual ghosts. This is about the same heat level as Original, but the sensation and duration of the heat is longer.

Chilli fans rate its heat level at 2/5, and those with more delicate tastes would rate it 4/5.

Goes well with...

  • Straight on a crumpet. Or toast. But crumpets are better.
  • Pie and mash. Maybe with some gravy as well.
  • Quiche and salad. Anything pastry based would be great actually.
